World We Imagine 3

Empathy Challenge Org. An organization and challenge targeted to create a global community to spread happiness. We want to inspire people to do favors for strangers – without expecting anything in return – share it on social media, and pass on the baton. Through this ripple effect of kindness, we want to start the biggest social experiment in empathy of the 21st century . Why Do the Challenge? The Empathy Challenge will attempt to end the common notion “you are different than me.” It will inspire people to treat others the same way they would treat family – if only for a moment. It will help people share a moment of empathy with a stranger – a stranger that would have gone unnoticed previously. While taking part in the challenge, we hope our community looks beyond cultural differences and learns to appreciate the spirit behind the body. What Is ECO? ECO will enable this experiment by initiating and marketing the endeavor on Instagram and Facebook. Like any grand social media...

A World We Dare to Imagine

Breaking The 3rd Degree Connection Why do we love our family? Why do we like our friends? Why do we ignore strangers? While reading the quote on equality by Jacqueline Novogratz, I wondered why we treat people differently. If we truly believe that all men are created equal, what’s stopping us from treating each other with the same respect we give our family? This incongruence may stem from the notion “you are different than me.” I want to create a world in which we treat people as family. What Is Family?  For a moment, think about this fact. Biologically speaking, we are all related. We each share DNA that can be traced back to common ancestors 1,000 years ago, which makes us all distant cousins. Simply thinking about a stranger as a relative can instantly create a bond that may naturally release emotions of love and respect, instead of judgment and suspicion. What Do I Know? Treat people as if they’re your distant relatives. I was subtly introduced to this idea while I ...

Apple To Google (Real Quick)

Last month, I was about to do something that none of my friends would approve. They thought I was going to make the big mistake of my college career. A friend even threatened to never message me again. Yet, I did it anyway - I gave up my iPhone and got a Google Pixel 2XL. This blog post is for those of you who think they're knees deep in the Apple ecosystem and think there's no way out. It's for those trailblazers who want to try something new. Allow me to share my reasons to switch out of Apple, and on to Google. Top 6 Reasons to Switch From iPhone X to Google Pixel 2XL 1. Google Assistant: With natural language processing and AI on the rise, a voice activated assistant in your pocket will become increasing more valuable. Google Assistant has proved to be better than Apple's Siri when comparing voice activated questions. Indeed, no one can beat google on its own searches. Here's a video on how the assistants compared in 2016: 2. Growth:  Alphabet's...

Born on Third Base

Writing Style  Before I share my thoughts on Born on Third Base by Chuck Collins, I would like to briefly praise the author’s writing style. Unlike Kurt Timmermeister, the author of Growing a Farmer, Chuck is clearly an avid writer who uses several techniques from business writing. He begins each chapter with a thought provoking quote, uses subheadings to introduce new ideas, and writes in plain English. Moreover, the overall structure is especially helpful to stay on track while reading this rather dense book. What I Thought In my opinion, Chuck’s invitation to the wealthiest citizens to recommit their wealth to social good is extremely strategic. I find it ironic that some billionaires are more powerful than entire countries. Yet, it’s these one-percenters that Chuck will influence through his book by sharing his story with his peers. Not only has he voiced his own opinion about social inequality but has described tangible ways for the one-percenters to join his mission to ...

Investment Proposal: Khan Academy

As per your request, I've found an organization that has not just redefined global standards for education but has also made a significant impact on my own life. After countless hours of research and learning about the platform, I highly recommend investing in Khan Academy. Khan Academy's vision "to provide a free, world class education for anyone, anywhere" clearly aligns with our fund's core values and will be the perfect addition to our portfolio (About Us, Khan Academy).  For your convenience, I have reiterated our investment criteria and have explained why Khan Academy fits the bill: AMDP Investment Standards Triple Bottom Line: At AMDP, we assess the organization's performance based on the three P's: people, planet, and profit. The investment must generate social, environmental and economic value. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): The company must take responsibility to improve environmental and social well-being. CSR helps not only enh...

The Botany of Desire (Extra Credit)

The Botany of Desire explores the relationship we have with our environment. The author, Michael Pollen, explains how four plants, in particular, have had a remarkable control over human desires. Tulips have satisfied our desire for beauty. Potatoes have fulfilled our need for nourishment. Marijuana has allowed us to unwind and feel bliss. Apples have satisfied our craving for sugar. What fascinated me about the PBS documentary on The Apple was how ubiquitous the plant has become. After doing some research, I found that there are over 2,500 varieties of apples grown in the US alone, and 7,500 varieties worldwide. Moreover, I also noticed that every language in the world has a term for Apples because of how accessible the fruit is today. While watching the documentary, I reflected on how my experience of buying apples has differed according to where I buy the product. Having lived in both developed and developing countries – USA, India and South Africa – I noticed the extent to whic...

Random Blog: A Special Day

I remember the 29th of March, 2014 like it was yesterday. Since it was the day after my 18th birthday, I was finding it hard to focus on my last set of exams in high school. I had also recently finished watching the gruesome series of How to Get Rejected from Colleges Five Times in A Row . After binge-watching those episodes, I needed a break from my daily routine. The only university I hadn't heard back from was my dream school. Although i was still hopeful, I had been told not to keep my expectations too high. This brings me to the day of my last decision letter. I woke up and instinctively scrolled through my inbox. It was a morning ritual that rarely brought me any joy, but it had to be done. I walked into to my mom's room without saying a word. She tried to cheer me up by putting on some music, but I was in no mood to choose the song. She put it on anyway and went to the balcony to water the plants. I switched on my laptop and started scrolling through Facebook and Twi...
